About Us

Brú Youth Service was established in 2008 to work with young people from Crumlin and Walkinstown. The need for a youth work organisation had been identified by a group of local volunteers who campaigned over a number of years for a dedicated youth facility that could provide young people with a safe space to engage in developmental activities.
Brú Youth Service has 10 employees and a dedicated team of volunteers who are all working to provide a quality youth service to young people. This is a testament to the history of the building and the many great people who have contributed to its development and success.

Young Person Centred
In the Brú Youth Service we believe that young people need to be at the centre of all we do and we are committed to a young person centred approach.
We describe our practice as follows:
-
We believe youth work to be an essential tool to attain social justice and challenge inequalities, exclusion and discrimination. Therefore we see ourselves as active agents of change with a passion and a vision for young people to live in a fair, just and caring society
-
We believe that when we identify the needs of the young people we need to take risks and show courage in the responses we offer them. Therefore we commit to being brave, diligent and resourceful when creating opportunities for the young people.
-
We believe that our life experience, culture and backgrounds enrich our work and celebrates the diversity within the young people. Therefore we commit to using our skills, knowledge and experiences to foster empathy for the young people, show leadership and inspire them.
-
We believe that building relationships with young people needs to be an honest, true and respectful process. Therefore we commit to communicate truthfully with young people and to consistently reflect on our work to remain relevant to their needs
Our Services
Brú Youth Service provides a range of services for young people aged 10-24.
Youth Work Programmes
Our Youth Work team works with young people aged 10-24 years using a variety of approaches. Those include open sessions, developmental programmes, special projects and one to one work. Young people are usually introduced to our service by attending an open session or through a referral from a local agency or self referral. Special projects are usually advertised in the service or occasionally through social media. The type of projects include music tuition/ lessons in singing, guitar, piano. Youth theatre is another example or art classes on Saturdays. To join these programmes, young people must be registered with the service.
Youth Diversion Programmes
Brú Youth Diversion Project is a special service aiming to support identified young people who have engaged with or may be at risk of engaging with crime. Our Youth Diversion Team works to help young people understand crime and its consequences and provide alternative activities that can assist young people in their development. Find out more here

The group is run by staff and volunteers of Brú. Activities include, cooking, games, pool and table tennis, art, music and other activities. We believe that young people of all abilities should have access to our services.
